Dr. Fares is the first Canadian and American board-certified emergency physician from the UAE. He completed his medical education at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2000. He then completed the Royal College Emergency Medicine Residency Program at McGill University in Montreal, Canada (2002-2007). In 2008, he completed a fellowship in clinical Emergency Medicine and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) at the University of Toronto in Canada followed by a Disaster Medicine Fellowship at Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA as Harvard’s first Disaster Medicine fellow and as co-founder of the program (2009). In May 2011, he obtained his Master of Public Health (MPH) from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health at which he is currently enrolled in a DrPH program in Health Care Management and Leadership. His project during the MPH/DrPH is the Emergency Medical System framework in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
Dr. Fares is currently a Consultant and Head of the Emergency Department at Zayed Military Hospital and is the founder and chairman of the Trauma System Initiative of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. He is also the founder and president of the Emirates Society of Emergency Medicine (ESEM) since 2012 with several community activities. Dr Fares was able to establish several Trauma initiatives in Abu Dhabi including the first official Trauma Registry in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi with over 20 thousand cases to date. He coordinated the efforts to establish Abu Dhabi STEMI network involving the different stakeholders. He was able to suggest a Good Samaritan Law draft, through the Emirates Society of Emergency Medicine, to the Ministry of Health which is moving forward now and should be announced soon. This will be considered the first law of its kind in an Arab Country. He led the Emirates society of Emergency Medicine Conference to be the largest Emergency Conference in the MENA region and one of the top conferences world-wide. He Introduced the idea of the Gulf Federation of Emergency Medicine which was officially announced in 2017 and is coordinating all the Emergency Medicine efforts in the Gulf Region. He is the winner of the “Founders Award” which was awarded by the American Academy of Emergency Medicine and the Mediterranean Academy of Emergency Medicine at the Xth Mediterranean Congress of Emergency Medicine, Dubrovnik, Croatia in September 2019. Dr Fares is leading important efforts to advance the Disaster Medical Preparedness in the UAE. He introduced “Hospital Incident Command System or HICS” to all SEHA Governmental Hospitals - Abu Dhabi along with other key recommendations and he is currently chairing the Ministry of Health Team on Prehospital Care development.

He is the department chair for Internal Medicine and the core-faculty in Tawam Emergency Medicine Residency program.
Dr. Arif is also the Founder and Director of International Emergency Medicine Education Project - iem-student.org. and Founding editor of acilci.net. He serves as the Vice-Chair of IFEM Core Curriculum and Education Committee and board member of the Asian Society for Emergency Medicine.

Dr. Ahmed Humaid is a UAE Emergency Physician Consultant, graduated from Ottawa, ON, Canada. He is currently the commanding officer for School of Health Affairs where he is leading the medical military training requirements for UAE Armed Forces. He has initiated the project of Tactical Medical Simulation capabilities for the Joint Logistic Command. He used to be an Emergency Department chairman and Field Hospital Commander from 2007 till 2013. Dr Doug Sinclair was the founding Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada in 1999. He was the president of the Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians from 1999-2001, and Chair of the ICEM in Halifax in 2006. He has been a past chair and member of the CPD committee of the IFEM since its inception. He currently is the VP of Medicine/Quality/Safety at IWK health in Halifax, and has an interest in health system quality and safety, and leadership mentorship and coaching.

Dr Melanie Stander is an Emergency Medicine physician based in Cape Town, South Africa. She is currently the Emergency Medicine Manager for Mediclinic Southern Africa, one of the largest private hospital groups in the country. She is a past President of the Emergency Medicine Society of South Africa, the immediate past vice-President of IFEM and one of the founders of the Gender Specific Issues SIG for IFEM.
Her interest and expertise are in point of care ultrasound, emergency medicine systems development and design, leadership and medicine gender advocacy.

Dr Ho Hiu Fai graduated from University of Hong Kong in 1986. He trained in general surgery during his early days. He was the consultant in Accident and Emergency Department of Queen Elizabeth Hospital Hong Kong since 1996 and chief of the department during the period of 1999 – 2013 and 2019 till now. He was deputized hospital chief executive of the hospital from 2013 – 19. He also carries honorary clinical lecturer and associate professor posts at the 2 medical schools in HK. Dr. Ho was also the President of Hong Kong College of Emergency Medicine (HKCEM) from 2011 – 2017.
